“A” List Agave – SipLebrity Fall 2010

John Schneider
“The Burt Reynolds”

SPIKE TVs’ Back Nine star John Schneider (who attained television icon status via The Dukes of Hazard) mixes things up on the set of his new feature film, Doonby, with El Grado, his tequila of choice. In Doonby, he whips up a little magic with The Burt Reynolds, inspired by a trick fellow icon Reynolds taught him 20 years ago.

“Fill the shot glass to the brim with El Grado Blanco Tequila. Tip the beer glass upside down. Reach into the beer glass and sit the mouth of the shotglass on the bottom. Keeping the shot glass firmly attached with a finger, turn the beer glass right-side up. The suction formed by the shot glass should be sufficient to keep it in place. Fill the glass with Corona and finish with a wedge of lime to the rim, then drink it like normal. The tequila slowly leaks out of the shot glass into the Corona and adds its own flavors to the beer.”

Sammy Hagar
“The Red Rocker”

Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer Hagar is also a celebrity spirit pioneer as well as restaurateur and gourmet chef (Justin Timberlake, take note). Hagar led the charge back in 1996 with t his Cabo Wabo tequila brand, inspired by the spot where he first sampled artisanal tequila in the 80s. Here’s a cocktail from his libations play list.

1½ oz Cabo Wabo Reposado Tequila
½ oz Amaretto
3 oz Cranberry Juice
Splash Lime Juice

Shake in a shaker half filled with ice, and strain into a chilled martini glass.
